April 20, 2015
Jim Cavanagh, Tom's younger brother, ran the 2015 Boston Marathon in honor of Tom and to support the TGC Fund.
Below is a statement from Jim:
“On April 20th of this year, I will be running the Boston Marathon in memory of my brother Tom Cavanagh. I ask you all to join me in honoring Tom’s memory by making a donation to the Thomas G. Cavanagh Memorial Fund. The TGC Fund was founded by the Cavanagh family in 2011 for the purpose of providing financial support in the fight against mental illness, specifically in the areas of research assistance and patient treatment.
Tom has been, and always will be, a role model in my life. During my high school years I became especially close to my older brother, spending each summer together in Rhode Island. Being a hockey player myself, although not the most talented one, I will never forget getting the chance to skate and train with Tom during the summers of my teenage years. Each time we skated, I was always amazed by his skill, work ethic, and humility.
My memories of those July and August mornings spent together working hard at our town rink and local track are among my fondest of both Tom and my life. Needless to say, training for the Boston Marathon is a great way for me personally to honor the memory of my brother.
Thank you for your support!”
