Thomas G. Cavanagh Memorial Fund

Philadelphia Marathon

November 18, 2012

In November 2012, Tom’s friend and teammate, Gerry Burke, ran the Philadelphia Marathon in honor of Tom and the TGC Fund. Gerry completed the marathon in less than 4 hours. He now joins Tom’s friend, Chris Cagliuso (NYC - Marathon 2011), as the 2nd person to run a marathon for Tom and the TGC Fund in as many years.

Below is a statement from Gerry before the run:

"On November 18th I am running the Philadelphia Marathon in memory of my friend Tom Cavanagh. Please join me in honoring Tom by donating to the Thomas G Cavanagh Memorial Fund. The main recipient of these donations will be Butler Hospital, a nonprofit psychiatric hospital based in Providence, Rhode Island.

Tom and I were teammates at Phillips Exeter Academy. He was someone that I looked up to, highly respected, and wanted to be more like.  The way he played the game inspired me, but the way he carried himself off the ice is what stands out to me the most.  Humble and selfless, he was truly a man for others.

Tom himself battled with mental illness. I know he is looking down on us today, proud of all that the Thomas G Cavanagh Memorial Fund has been able to accomplish in such a short amount of time. Your donation will help those suffering from mental illness receive the proper care and treatment.

Thank you for your time in reading this and for your support!"

The TGC Fund would like to thank Gerry and Chris for their great support and commitment to our mission.
